Visit of Serbian Ministry of Interior Delegation to Tajikistan

Delegation from the Ministry of Interior of Serbia has visited Tajikistan with the support of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan (OiT). During this two-day visit, the delegation visited the OSCE OiT, where the Deputy Head Mr. Hans-Peter Larsen has briefed them about the activities of the OSCE OiT on police reform promotion, as well as on other OSCE projects that are under implementation in Tajikistan.

Afterwards the guests have visited the Headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Republic of Tajikistan (RT), where they met with members of the OSCE OiT Police Reform National Team and with the management of the MIA RT International Cooperation Department. During the meeting, the Serbian delegation was familiarized with police reform progress and was shared with detailed information on Police Reform Programme, approved on May 3 of current year.

During the visit to the MIA Special Anti-Terrorism Unit (OMON), the delegation was acquainted with the unit’s activities, has visited a shooting range, Canine and vehicles used for special police operations. The parties agreed to continue exchange of experiences in combatting terrorism and illegal armed groups, including under conditions of high mountain regions.

According to the agenda, the delegation has met with the management of the MIA RT Department for Combatting Organized Crime (DCOC). At the meeting, the Head of DCOC - Colonel Safialo Devonaev has emphasized that Tajikistan is located at the front line of the fight against terrorism and illicit drug trafficking, and briefed the Serbian colleagues on the results of the MIA units and departments operations on combatting terrorism and extremism. The guests were also introduced to the activities of the recently created DCOC Centre on combatting cybercrime, the staff of which has already identified 13 crimes on this issue within the half-year period of 2014.

According to Serbian Police staff Ljubisa Momcilovic, the Serbian delegation from the Ministry of Interior will report on the outcomes of their visit to the management of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia and the Serbian Police will provide assistance to the MIA RT in the fight against terrorism and extremism by providing trainings to the Special Police staff and workshops for operational services staff.
